WFMW - Gluten Free Restaurant Menus

With both of my children having celiac disease, and my Dr recommending that I follow a gluten free diet for other reasons, we are very conscious of what restaurants we can and cannot eat at. We are seeing more and more restaurants offering a separate gluten free menus or providing a list of their current foods that are gluten free. The other night, thanks to Uno's Chicago Grill, my boys were able to enjoy pizza at a restaurant for the first time in ages. I have also found that PF Changs and Outback Steakhouse offer a gluten free menu also. Restaurants that post a "safe" foods list include Chili's, Denny's, Chik-fil-A, and Wendy's. I am sure there is more, as I have only discovered the ones we have visited or frequent. I also want to declare that I am not receiving any compensation from the above listed establishments, I just want to share the information with anyone who may find themselves in the same position my family is.

Okay...So I Caved

I keep reading on other blogs about "The Shred". Today, I bought it. Wish me luck. I hope I don't pass out the first time, I'm so far out of shape I think I have become a Boohbah! (By the way, this show completely freaks me out, the first time Landon saw it, he cried until I turned the channel)

4 Loads of laundry since yesterday

...And I hope the stomach virus that landed at our house has left the building! Ethan has taken the brunt of it and with his communication issues, we never know nor is he able to express when the big V is coming. (Sorry TMI) So lots of clean up around here,

4 loads of laundry (yikes, a dollar to wash)
3 pillows in the trash
2 favorite stuffed animals that will never be the same
1 can of carpet cleaner gone in a day

That's a quick overview of my bloggy absence!

Doctor Bills

Why do Doctor bills always come in the mail on a Friday afternoon after the billing department is closed? Do they time them perfectly so you can be angry all weekend knowing that you are being charged for something you should not owe for. The topper is that they turn you over to collections and it's the first statement you have received!

Gluten Free

By the advice of the pediatrician, both of my boys are gluten free. Ethan has been since last October and Landon since January. Ethan was for autistic tendencies and Landon for digestion issues. The differences have been extreme. Ethan is a different child. His speech has improved ten fold, his coordination is better, bathroom habits are much better, and he has lost his big bloated belly. Landon has started to gain weight and try to become more physically active. He is able to take a few steps now. We are hoping that after his little tongue snipping, he will make progress in speech.
The food choices sometimes leave a lot to be desired. Many of the thinks, such as crackers and cookies are either very hard or taste horrible. By trial and error, we have found many choices that work for our boys. Eating out is sometimes a challenge as well. Many restaurants think that all kids menus should have breaded chicken or mac and cheese on it. We often get Ethan an adult entree to share with Landon. I also try to get something that Landon can eat since he always wants some of what I am eating. Kudos to the restaurants that post their menus and nutrition information online, this saves me a ton of time!

Calorie counts

I forgot to add, I was on target with calorie counts, between 1500-1800 is a good amount for me.

Mommy's trip to the Dr.

I had my follow-up visit today in reference to my thyroid. More blood work to test my levels, and an answer if we need to change my medication. I questioned him about some of my "female" problems and if they were related to the thyroid. After hearing my list of complaints, he feels I should ask my ob/gyn about Poly Cystic Ovarian Syndrome (PCOS) He feels I have many of the symptoms. What else can I come up with ? I guess its time to schedule my visit. I hope to find one closer to home as I don't want to go the the practice I went to when I was pregnant with Landon. Hi ho hi ho off to the insurance lists I go.

Landon's Weight

Landon is going to the Dr to get weighed today to see if he continues to gain. I also need to talk with her about our next steps as all the genetic testing came back normal. We also need to discuss his tongue tied issue.
